Valorisation: Taking lessons from Systems Biology

Angus Livingstone

Indeed, if one had to summarize the essence of systems biology, it would be integration: integration of the various technologies, integration of the various hierarchical levels of biological information, integration of technology and biology, integration of cross-disciplinary scientists, integration of industry and academia, and, finally, integration of discovery and hypothesis-driven science – A. Aderem, Institute for Systems Biology, Seattle in Cell 121 (2005) : 511.

In our drive to optimize the valorisation results from the investment in research, what can we learn from taking a “systems approach” to better understanding the interactions of various elements: training highly qualified people; knowledge transfer; collaborative research; technology transfer; and entrepreneurship.
