Jacqueline Broerse

Jacqueline Broerse graduated in Medical Biology (cum laude) at the Vrije
Universiteit Amsterdam (1988). Since 2000, she is associate professor (0.9 fte)
at the Dept. Biology & Society, Institute for Studies on Communication and
Innovation in health and Life sciences (SCIL) of the VUA. After her graduation
she worked several years as a policy maker on biotechnology at the Dept.
Research and Technology of the Directorate General International Cooperation (Ministry
of Foreign Affairs). She then became researcher at the Dept. Biology & Society
(0.5 fte) as well as project officer at the Center for development Cooperation
Services (0.5 fte), both of the VUA.
She wrote her PhD thesis on the development of an interactive approach to
include small-scale farmers in the biotechnological innovation process. Her
current research is focused on methodology development for interactive policy
and interactive technology development in the field of (international) public
health, biotechnology and biomedical sciences. She is a member of the research
school Science, Technology and Modern Culture (WTMC).
She is Master coordinator of the master differentiation International Public
Health (given within the master degree programmes Health Sciences and Biomedical
Sciences) and also coordinates, and teaches within, various courses of the dept.
Biology & Society, such as the master courses ‘Research methods for need
assessment', ‘Containment strategies for infectious diseases in global context',
‘Management, organization and policy in IPH', ‘Analysis of government policy',
and ‘Science, technology and society studies'. She is a member (and chair) of
various educational boards.
